Despite having this blog up for only a little while, I’ve stepped away and came back to it a few times already. ‘Time After Time’, I’d come back to writing and would feel ‘Under Pressure’, especially after reading other people’s blogs to create a decent logo to slap across the top of my one’s forehead.
A lifetime ago at the tender age of three, my parents used to own a greasy spoon cafe where I would stand on tables and sing “Bad” by Michael Jackson. Kick, point and d*ck grab included. I have no recollection of this although my Dad will religiously tell the story to anyone that will listen. “Every Breath You Take’ doesn’t have to be to bust my balls, Dad 🙈😂 Maybe it’s ‘The Power Of Love’ that makes him want to talk about me regardless of if he’s embarrassing the crap out of me.
Rewind to two week ago when I was arsing about on Instagram ‘All Night Long’ when an image of the “Bad” album cover popped up and instantly something clicked. Michael Jackson Bad.. The Uncool Dad.. hmmm.
I shouted my boy Dwayne Van Willz, a kickass graphic designer, hardcore sneaker enthusiast and also one of my son’s Godfathers and told him the concept. I hadn’t even finished explaining it – he’d already gotten ‘Into The Groove’. “I’m on it” he says.
One thing most people don’t know about me is how much I love 80’s cult movies and soundtracks. Had you noticed all of the 80’s references so far in this post? The breakfast club.. Weird Science..Tron.. Bloodsport.. Back to the future.. I love all of that sh*t and the music that goes along with it. So when I came up with the concept, like up the jam, I was pumped!
I’d also seen the new trailer for Despicable Me 3 and the new villain, the mullet-adorning Balthazar Bratt voiced by Trey Parker, has me fully gassed! And the fact that they’re battling it out in the trailer to MJ’s Bad.. so sick!!!
Following on with this 80’s theme.. I’d recently discovered a dude on YouTube called Tronicbox who remixes current songs into 80’s versions, most of which sound better than the originals!
I digress. So having fully immersed you in my 80’s juice.. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the new Uncool Dad logo. ‘Can you feel it?’. Heee Heeeeeeee!
